Middle School

Relationships play a pivotal role in strengthening the College's inclusive culture, building a deeper sense of community and respect that reinforces our vision and values. For Middle School, greater focus is placed on students taking responsibility for their own learning, setting goals, and being global citizens.

Our Middle School students are supported by their teachers to explore new areas of interest while maintaining a focus on the academic growth necessary for success as they transition through the college toward VCE. Students are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of co-curricular activities to further develop those essential life skills that contribute to students feeling a sense of community and belonging.

Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 are encouraged to explore new interests in a safe and supportive environment. We focus on developing students’ self-confidence, and the skills to set personal goals and work to their personal best while supporting their physical and social development in these important early adolescent years. Year 9 students will participate in mock job interviews and a City and Country week-long expedition, exposing students to the City of Melbourne and explore landmarks such as RMIT, the M.C.G., Eureka Tower and the Old Melbourne Gaol. They will also investigate issues around homelessness. As part of the program, students will undertake a day at a farm where they will discover the concept of ‘farm to plate’. Students will participate in developing a respectful understanding of Indigenous culture, languages, politics, and the structure of Indigenous communities. The program explores diversity, inclusion, and the challenges faced by many Australians including discrimination, prejudice, violence, bullying, sexuality, gender, and judgment, which can all negatively impact mental health.

Along the way, students will build relationships outside the classroom, encouraging real-world connections and building new areas of interest that support personal growth.
